Ha! I had to ask for Montreal steak seasoning? That is your gripe? Move somewhere further south and ask for that. I am still rolling because you would be laughed out of the door anywhere near where I am from. Lol, Montreal steak seasoning................. REALLY!? Ok, real review. Great service, loved the Fargo beer (forgot the name but it was darkish, stones throw?) Also had fun watching some sports. The ny strip I got was a great cut, cooked perfect. A little heavy on the Worcestershire (sp?) But still great. They didn't ask me if I needed steak sauce, because clearly they saw that I was a man. They did offer me Montreal steak seasoning, and I thought I was going to backhand the waiter across the bar. JK. (that entire offering of Montreal steak seasoning story was made up. Who would really expect that, really?)The steak was better than 99.998% of chain steakhouses. Would have went with a 4.1, but "i am a steak diva kjj who thinks this is a Dennys.steak and.doesn't know what beef tastes like until slathered with Montreal's secret seasoning, preferably from McCormicks.spices" really shot them down. So now I shall ethug the beef/spice diva into not ruining for steakometer of ND.

2 for 1 burgers are only if you order 2 beverages. I picked this place because it was walking distance from my hotel. The place looks an old lodge converted into a dive bar into a restaurant. There are plenty of TVs with sports if your digital pacifier isn't enough. I asked the waitress for recommendations and she said the steaks were hand cut, never frozen and people raved about them. I got the NY Strip and honestly, it wasn't much better than a Dennys steak. My 1st clue should have been, when she asked what sauce I wanted for my steak. The wildrice was soggy and the steamed vegetables were somewhat bland. The bread and butter at the beginning were pretty good After I got my steak... I had to ask for Montreal Steak seasoning, just to finish it. I guess for a $15 steak, I shouldn't have expected much?

Speedway is a favorite spot of mine and my friends. I went to UND from 2011-2014 for my masters and speedway was a huge part of our weekly routine. Such a quirky little place and it's almost nothing like you would expect when you first see it. The BEST 2 for 1 Burgers on Mondays and Crappy Beer night on Thursdays. I miss it so much already. I took a teaching job in the Twin Cities and every time my parent's come to see me , I demand they stop and get me a Popper Burger on their way through Grand Forks. I don't even care that its cold when I get it. This place was like a home away from home for me and my 4 closest M.Ed's. The bartenders are awesome and super friendly---they knew us and we knew them. And there is always good music playing in the bar. I've been in the Twin Cities for just over 5 months now and I'm still searching for a spot like Speedway.

A convenient location for many who live off campus, Speedway is no stranger to students at University of North Dakota. Specials area available every day for some of the most popular items on the menu. You will find some additional specials written on the neon board near the cashier. Make sure to bring your student ID for 15% off almost everything. I like the ribeye steak, chipotle salad, poppy burgers and BBQ ribs. For 2-for-1 burger Monday, you may get a cup of 99-cent coffee to satisfy the beverage requirement. Be aware of the special jargon they use when referring to their prime ribs. Queen is for 10-oz, and King is for 16-oz. I would suggest using the ounces instead of their jargon. There has been a few times when we wanted 10-oz but got a 16 ouncer simply because they thought we said "King." Pay special attention to the check and make sure they get all the items and discounts correct, and you will most likely have a great time.

I ordred the prime rib ($15) to satisfy my craving for a huge chunk of roast beast. Didn't quite live up to my expectations: The dinner came with choice of two sides, I ordered tomato soup and a baked potato. Bread service came with the meal. It was some kind of whole-grain type of loaf, served warmish, along with soft butter. My first reaction was: "god, they overcooked it." It's a mortal sin to order a cut of any standing rib roast over medium. Lucky for me, the cooks either: a) browned the meat for a little bit on the flat top to heat the meat up, or, b) the meat stood under a heat lamp for a while. ...Not the beautiful red color I wanted. While the roast was technically correct, it lacked several key components every good roast should have. 1) It needed a crust. While some seasoning existed, it just didn't come though. I tasted minimal herbage on the outer layers of meat 2) it needed to be warm. A good, well rested meat isn't screaming hot, but it certainly isn't lukewarm like mine was 3) It needed to be cooked slower. The meat was tough in places and tender in others. The connective tissue in the meat will dissolve if treated with care. Blast a roast in a hot oven and you'll get chewy meat. The verdict: The roast itself left much to be desired. I don't think I'll order it again. The other components, however, were on par for a typical restaurant in Grand Forks. Service was quick and friendly and portions were fantastic. $15 for a cut of prime rib is a decent price. Still, if this cut of meat isn't properly handled with the respect it deserves, it shouldn't be on the menu.

The food is ok. Cheap. But so noisy you can't talk to the person you are sitting next to without shouting.

Apps, burgers, and any fried food is good. Don't bother with anything else. Fantastic beer specials! Great atmosphere on game nights.

This place is great. The prices are very reasonable, cheaper than you'd expect. Everything is cooked perfectly. I'm not sure what steak connoisseur above posted about, but I've never had a problem with my steaks. I guess if I wanted a 'crust' or rested steak or whatever they were talking about, I could probably go spend 3 times the amount elsewhere and get that. For a regular guy like me, it's good. I order medium rare and I get a nice medium rare steak.
